Subramanyam’s field of interest and specialisation is Therapeutic Yoga. He focusses on the individual and his health conditions. He then comes out with a subject-centric prescription of yogic exercises and associated good practices to not only improve the subject’s specific health ailment but also to improve his/ her overall strength, agility and flexibility, both physically and mentally. This results in an increased health quotient over time.

He observes that often, due to an ailment in one of the body areas, the rest of the body, too, suffers. His prescription circumvents around the main health ailment to improve the rest of the body’s health conditions. Sometimes, too much precaution is observed by the subject when living with a chronic health ailment or has just been treated for some pre-existing condition. His prescription addresses these situations carefully, treading the fine line between “more” and “less”.

Therapeutic yoga has been in practice in India for thousands of years. Yoga therapy is the application of yogic techniques such as kriyas, asanas, pranayamas, bandhas, mudras and meditation along with proper food habits, a good lifestyle, regular sleeping habits and the right mental attitude. It helps in improving one’s physiological, psychological and spiritual health.

Benefits of Therapeutic Yoga

The autonomic nervous system is divided into the sympathetic system, which is often identified with the fight-or-flight response, and the parasympathetic, which is identified with what's been called the relaxation response. When one does yoga - the deep breathing, the stretching, the reduction in muscle tension, and improvement in the relaxed state of the body - all result in switching the fight-or-flight system OFF and the relaxation response ON. This has a dramatic effect on the body. The heartbeat stabilises, respiration stabilises, and the blood pressure stabilises. The body seizes this opportunity to turn on the healing mechanisms.
